U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE James S. Gilmore III called on Russia to release all political prisoners held in Russia and occupied Crimea.

Talking about occupied Crimea, he mentioned Soviet persecutions and Stalin’s repressions.

‘We recall the bad history of the Stalin period and the former communist regime, that actually deported Crimean Tatars away from their homeland in order to bring about this consolidation; but the Russian government has left behind that regime, and looks toward the future with more optimism than the old Joseph Stalin days’, Ambassador James S. Gilmore III said at the Permanent Council in Vienna.

The U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE reiterated that his country fully supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
