As experts and the media have repeatedly reported, before the start of the large-scale aggression against Ukraine in the Black and Azov Seas, most of the landing forces of the Russian navy and its cover ships were concentrated, together more than 40 units. In addition, to cover this group, Russia has concentrated the main strike forces of its fleet in the Mediterranean Sea, including missile cruisers. During the week of active hostilities, Russia failed to realize the potential of its fleet against mainland Ukraine. Russian propaganda claimed that a tactical landing in the Sea of Azov on the flank of its ground group, which was not of significant military importance.

Also, the aggressor’s fleet captured the Zmiiny Island and ensures the blockade of Ukrainian ports and the capture of individual merchant ships that came out of them. The main task of the aggressor – landing in the Odessa region – during the week of the war was not realized by him. Under these circumstances, NATO countries announced large-scale military exercises in the Arctic and significantly increased military tensions in the Sea of Okhotsk and Sea of Japan. But the concentration of Russia’s fleet in the Black and Mediterranean Seas will not allow the aggressor state to effectively counter current challenges in other parts of the world’s oceans.
