Upon the organisers’ invitation experts of our Association took part on 21 October in the on-line Side Event of the 76th Seccion of the UN General Assembly “Freedom of Expression and Gender Justice”. The Event was devoted to the evaluation and discussion to the Report A/76/258 of the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Mrs. Irene Khan, which reflects the relevant challenges and was presented during the General Assembly’s session. UN Special Rapporteur, members of UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, officials from UNESCO Canada Mexico Netherlands and Sweden, also as numerous journalists and human defenders from more that fifty countries participated in this Event.
When this UN Report A/76/258 was drafted in 2021 our Association passed the detalized submission to the Special Rapporteur, regarding the disctirmination and repressions against the female activists in the modern Crimea, including bloggers and human defenders. So during the side-event Assosiation initiated discussion of the issues of opression the female activists in conflict zones, under foreign occupation and of the discrimination the indigenous female activists. Association is sure that only extreme attention of the international structures with relevant mandate to the facts of repression against female journalists and bloggers may influence for avoiding the relevant mass terror of authoritarian and aggressive regimes. Alas now the relevant activities of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine is brutally blocked in occupied territories by the Russia-controlled illegal formations but we will continue the work on highlighting the relevant risks and illegal actions of the Russian invaders’ structures.
