In Crimea, a scandal broke out as far as a company Monolith-Group initiated the start of the diabasic barrow excavation near Alushta. The project casts a long shadow on the remnants of Alushta as a resort city. It is planned to destroy a large area of mountain forest and deprive the local population of the access to the residues of mountain water. The Crimean citizens call upon the others’ help in the social networks.

The Crimean oppositional media immediately declared that it is Chief of Crimea Sergey Aksenov who stands behind the curtains of the barbarian and outrageous project of the diabasic open cast construction on mountain Uraga, above Vinogradnoye Village, in Greater Alushta. [1]. That can be explained as far as the OOO Monolith-Group that claimed their rights on the project has the name being similar to that of a powerful construction conglomerate Monolith owned by the Aksenov clan and the veterans of the Russian secret services. They have a capital participation in the company in equal shares [2]. Nevertheless, it is more likely that it is the Russian secret services that directly back the OOO Monolith-Group, OOO Azimuth, and OOO Eridan run by a Diaz Ermanov [3].

Those companies, which were founded in 2019-2020, received the official remarks from the inspection authorities in the registers.  That, however, does not affect their activity, so they have been showing the megabuck turnovers in the white audits, actually, since the very moment of their foundation. In addition, the project can be supported by the criminal group of Russian defence minister Shoygu. The group is from Balashykha situated near Moscow. Its activity intensified on the peninsular. Moreover, the criminal group is backed by Irina Soloviova who is the main architect in Balashykha [4]. In 2021, Sergey Aksenov lost a portion of the Kremlin’s support, so the great Russian clans are forcing him back from the money and power gravy train at all the directions.  Sergey Kompaneytsev, a close Aksenov’s ally and environmental protection deputy minister being responsible for issuing the authorization for the exploitation of the natural resources, was thrown into the pre-detention centre on the 2021-New Year’s Eve. He was accused of skimming the money under the cloak of the struggle against the corruption [5].

The project of the open cast traditionally differs with an outrageous treatment of the invaders to the nature of Crimea and its inhabitants. Vinorgadnoye Village, in the vicinities of which they are trying to start exploiting, gets water supplies predominately from the mountain interceptions [6]. The barrow excavation automatically deprives the dwellers of Partenit and Vinogradnoye Village as well as Luchistoye, Lavrovoye, Zaprudnoye, Pushkino, Kiparisnoye, Malyi Mayak, and Lazurnoye Villages, an access to drinking water. Those settlements are supplied with water from the shared system of the mountain interceptions that started to function much worse after the occupation, in particular, due to the increase of the withdrawal done by Sharkhinsk open cast that had been functioning over there before.

Sharkhinsk open cast has been functioning since 1977. It was built with taking into account the stricter environmental protection standards and rules. But even in such a way, it became a reason for a serious environmental tension on the Southern Shore of Crimea. Before the occupation, the Ukrainian authorities declared many times that the facility had to be closed. Unfortunately, that did not happen because the pit exploitation at its full capacity was backed by will-to-be speaker of the State Council Vladimir Konstantinov who owns a construction conglomerate Konsol and Sharkhinsk pit itself [7]. He and his partners from the Russian secret services are the Konsol’s co-owners.

Stone for Kerch Bridge, Simferopol Airport, camp Artek, and Tavrida rout.  was excavated from Sharkhinsk pit that increased the scopes of winning in 2014. The peasants of the villages in the vicinities complain that the occupants stopped observing even the basic safety norms in the circumstances of the occupation. Moreover, the people’s houses crack for the daily bursts and the local people are becoming ill more often because several villages are covered with the clouds of cement dust. The activists of the villages that suffer from the health and other problems sent hundreds of complaints to the republican authorities and Moscow. Though, their petitions were ignored, of course.  In the region, the emergence of another open cast, taking into account the present-day Russian approach to winning the raw material, can result in the activation of the mud slides, destruction of the mount system of water supply for a group of villages and settlements, and is an omen of the obliteration of those communities as a whole.

In the social networks, a project of the OOO Monolith-Group was published. In it, they complain that, after the supplies from Zaporozhye were stopped, the people feel a lack of diabase in Crimea. That stone is used for manufacturing an important concrete that is needed for the construction of large infrastructural facilities including the military structures, Tavrida rout, railways, moorings, and coast protection structures. In addition, the OOO Monolith-Group reports that the Crimean diabase is an extremely crucial and expensive stone, so the enterprise is obliged to contribute to supplementing the Crimean income and creating the work places. Moreover, the investors assure that their winning will be made by means of the advanced methods of ‘silent bursts’ without any harm to the nature. That entire thing does not hold water. At Sharkhinsk open cast, Konstantinov has hired a Russian staff and the personnel from the states of the Central Asia, not the Crimean people,  working on a rotational schedule [8]. Besides, that is a cheaper way of employment, so the local people must not wait for any real work places at the new open cast.

The statement on the importance of the new open cast, where diabase is won for the erection of the large infrastructural facilities, is actually a sort of accusation addressed to the Russian authorities who are blamed for their professional impropriety.  In Moscow, they approved a federal target programme of the development of Crimea with a budget of 13 billion dollars. At the same time, no one has not thought through where the construction materials will be received from. Moreover, on the eve of the Crimean Bridge opening ceremony and before it was put into operation, the officials declared that Crimea would start receiving the construction materials transferred over the bridge once the railway started its working [8]. That would decrease the amounts of the pit production and make the stress on the environment of the peninsula lower.

Apart from that, in its document, Monolith-Group actually drives at the fact proving that the large areas of the vineyards of the plant Massandra were bought by the new Yalta owners such as the Kovalchuks. They purchased them for the construction. They did that because, otherwise, the close partners of the Russian president would block the initiative related with the launch of the operation of the new open cast the dust and mud slides threats of which make the viticulture on the large land lots impossible.  In addition, the statements of the Monolith Group, like ‘an advanced technology called a ‘silent burst’, are lies, too.  Firstly, in the Russian Federation that has become poor, there are no advanced technologies and funds for them, either. Secondly, anyone, even the most silent bust will create a resonance, and that is fatal for the earthquake-prone Crimean Southern Shore where the mud slides were activated after the recent earthquakes [9].

It is most likely, that the White-Stoned City realizes that the occupation of Crimea is nearing its end, so Moscow has decided to have eyes on a Crimean diabase that is really a rare and precious treasure.  Besides, that stone is needed for the construction of the military infrastructure. The Kremlin does not spare the civilians. Thus the multi-storeyed buildings for them are constructed out of substandard material that can turn out to be hazardous and lead to the accidents. The same can’t be said for the military facilities. The occupants are trying to erect them almost without meeting any construction standards.  Therefore, probably, the launch of the open cast near Alushta into the operation is initiated for preserving the knockover at the Crimean military construction places on a high level, almost without any investments and with taking into consideration the decrease of the funds amount in the budget gravy train.

Though, in those circumstances, the current absence of water and the threat of a complete dehydration of Greater Alushta villages work not in the favour of the invaders. The authorities do not worry about the current problems of the locals. They are afraid that the dehydration will cause the direct social riots. The open cast issue should be taken into consideration by the officials in Kyiv. That is likely to be the criminal actions the Russian Federation does on the occupied territory of Ukraine. That can result in formidable environmental disasters. Moreover, a social demand for the protection from occupants’ trying to finish off the remnants of the Crimean Southern Shore nature is getting higher.
